Discovery - Extreme Engineering Season 5 (2006)

Discovery Channel – Extreme Engineering [Season 5]

English | Xvid | 2.03GB

Wikipedia - Engineering the Impossible was a ground-breaking 2-hour special, created and written by Alan Lindgren and produced by Powderhouse Productions for the Discovery Channel. It focused on three incredible, yet physically possible, engineering projects: the nine mile (14 km)-long Gibralter Bridge, the 170-story Millennium Tower and the 4000+-foot-long Freedom Ship. This program won the Beijing International Science Film Festival Silver Award, and earned Discovery’s second-highest, weeknight rating for 2002. After the success of this program, Discovery commissioned Powderhouse to produce the first season of the 10-part series, Extreme Engineering, whose episodes were written by Alan Lindgren, Ed Fields and several other Powderhouse writer-producers. Like Engineering the Impossible, the first season of Extreme Engineering focused on extreme projects of the future. Season 2 (and all seasons since) featured projects already in construction around the world.

BBC – The Planets - DVDRip

BBC – The Planets
English | Divx | 656×384 | AC3 | 192kbps | 744×8MB

While watching The Planets, be prepared to fight your way past all kinds of computer animation which makes Walking with Dinosaurs seem like the last word in realism. It seems that no solar or planetary event which ever happened (or which may or may not have happened) is worthy of mention here without recourse to lovingly detailed shots of implausible-looking collisions and explosions. These come complete with sound effects, despite the fact that there is no sound in the vacuum of space, and are enhanced by a range of colours, some of which are visible only to bees. Somehow Patrick Moore’s The Sky at Night manages to convey just as much excitement with little more than a couple of diagrams and the presenter’s hyperactive enthusiasm. Fortunately, this two-DVD set is redeemed by both its subject matter and its sheer scope, offering all eight 50-minute episodes of the 1999 documentary series covering the history of the solar system and humanity’s age-old desire to learn its secrets. Detailed indexing and scene access makes this a convenient reference source too, so amateur astronomers everywhere can finally bin those off-air VHS copies.

Contains all eight episodes from the series:- ‘Different Worlds’, ‘Moon’, ‘Terra Firma’, ‘Giants’, ‘Star’, ‘Atmosphere’, ‘Destiny’ and ‘Life’.

Episode 1 – Different Worlds

Travel back in time and space to witness the awesome forces that gave birth to the Sun and the far-flung family of planets that orbit it. From the rocky, superheated surface of Mercury, to the storm-wracked atmosphere of gigantic Jupiter and the distant mysteries of Pluto, this is a richly detailed introduction to the creation, composition and alien landscapes of The Planets

Episode 2 – Terra Firma

Relive the thrill of first glimpses of otherworldly terrain as you join the early quest to discover the true nature of our planetary neighbours. Pierce the toxic clouds of Venus to map ancient lava flows the size of continents. Visit a Martian volcano taller than Mount Everest and head even further out into the planetary system in search of clues to the “living” geological forces at work in the most unlikely cosmic corners.

Episode 3 – Giants

They are the heavyweights of the planetary line up. There are unimaginable vast orbs of seething gas and brilliant could bands that contain virtually no landscapes. Now, take a closer look at these planetary behemoths.

Episode 4 – Moon

While a number of planets are accompanied by moons of all sizes and compositions, only the Earth boasts such a comparatively huge “companion world.” What forces could have resulted in this planetary odd couple? Join the search for the answer to one of the solar system’s most baffling mysteries, from Cold Warrior scientists racing to be first on the moon, to current theories and remarkable computer-generated visions of the moon’s explosive creation.

Episode 5 – Star

To primitive peoples, the Sun was synonymous with God – the ultimate source of life-giving warmth and light. Now, step aboard with the Skylab space station to probe the turbulent heart of our local power source. Plunge into the centre of the Sun to witness the reactions driving its primordial atomic pulse. And observe the spectacle of massive solar flares capable of engulfing entire planets – including our own.

Episode 6 – Atmosphere

Atmospheres make weather. This can result in alien weather reports that seem as if they’re right our of a science program: torrential sulphuric rain and metallic snow on Venus, global dust storms raging across Mars and centuries-long, Earth-sized cyclones circling Jupiter. It’s an eye-opening exploration of other worldly weather that reveals the surprising variety and force of atmospheric activity throughout the solar system.

Episode 7 – Life

From the startling Copernican revelation that the Earth was not the centre of the Universe, humanity has wondered if life is unique to our world. But how likely is it that the Earth is the only reservoir of life in the vastness of space? Come along for the ride as early planetary researches learn that conditions on our neighbouring planets may be too hostile to support life and discover how recent findings hint there may be alien life “hiding out” in places we’ve overlooked.

Episode 8 – Destiny

What is the long-term fate of the planets in our solar system? Voyage to a future billions of years in the distance. Explore the Sun’s expansion as it engulfs its planetary progeny in the final, fiery act of its billion-year long dilemma.

The Sun is a 1 million km wide ball of burning gas. So be prepared for the best firework show you have ever seen!

Solar flares – Variations in the Sun’s magnetic field cause huge jets or loops of stellar material to shoot out into space.

Solar wind – Solar flares can be accompanied by dense clouds of electrically charged particles, travelling at around 450km per second. When they reach Earth, they can affect communications satellites.

BBC – The Cosmos: A Beginner’s Guide (2007)
english | XviD | 640×352 | BitRate : 990 Kbps | 00:28:55

It’s the story of everything – from the first microseconds of our universe to the exciting future of first contact and homes beyond our Earth. Join Adam Hart-Davis, Janet Sumner and Maggie Aderin for a journey around the planet to discover the latest thinking about the Cosmos.

Episode 01 – Life in the Cosmos
Are we alone or is there other life out there? In this programme we meet the alien hunters, who spend their time tracking down life in the Cosmos. Some of them are looking for incredibly primitive life really close at hand. And others are looking for something you could talk to.

Episode 02 – Building the universe
We reveal all about the universe: how it, and everything in it, came into being and the huge new experiments currently being done to investigate it.

Episode 03 – Seeing the universe
Most of what we know about the universe, from its age to its size to how it began in a Big Bang, has been found out through telescopes. But how far out into space and back into time is it possible to see?

Episode 04 – Space exploration
The human race has harboured a deep fascination for the Cosmos for thousands of years. But the technology to escape the confines of our planet and explore the Solar System has only been with us for fifty years. In this great adventure we’ve sent probes to other worlds, inhabited space stations in Earth orbit and put men on the Moon. But what is happening at the cutting edge of space exploration now?

Beneath the reflective atmosphere of Venus lurks a planet that has puzzled man for centuries.

Another from the Excellent “Images of the Cosmos” series of Astronomy programmes.
Mars may get all the press but Venus should be almost a twin of earth considering it’s orbital distance and size.

Instead it is a Hell planet. Why ? This explores Venus in quite some depth (and I have found few programmes that have BTW though I remember a documentary about catastrophism and Venus from somewhere) Answering some of the old questions that perplexed Huygens about it’s mysterious surface while posing new questions about it’s strange exogeology, atmosphere & surface features.

An in-depth look at the latest advances in Telescopes and what they can see with the aid of new technology.

The application of new technology to some of the best ground-based Telescopes in the world is examined here.
We find out about the conditions needed for idea viewing or “seeing” and explore how the Astronomers enemy our turbulent atmosphere can be overcome with some ingenious techniques. These include active optics, adaptive optics and coherent interferometry all of which are explained with demonstrations of their power. Space Telescopes are mentioned but this is mainly about the ground based advances in the field.

BBC – Images of the Cosmos – Jets and Black Holes

BBC – Images of the Cosmos – Jets and Black Holes
English | Xvid | 592×448 | 25fps | MP3 | 128kbps | ~300MB

The strange & astounding phenomenon of relativistic Jets associated with black holes is under scrutiny.

This programme examines the Jets found to be associated with black holes on a stellar and a Galactic scale. These Jets can extend to 10 Million light years and reach speeds of 99.9% the speed of light. To study them Astronomers need to utilise the best Radio Telescopes in the world and we see these telscopes in vast arrays (such as the VLA and Britains Merlin network) even linking Telescopes on a Global scale using Very Long Baseline Interferometry facilitated by Atomic clocks using Hydrogen Masers. The Bi-polarJets although seen emitting from stellar scale Black holes and possibly neutron stars are more commonly associated with the centres of Galaxies (usually active Radio Galaxies) and even Quasars where colossal Black Holes lurk to power them in a complex way. (Some newer theories link the Jets with the equally mysterious & awe inspiring Gamma Ray Burst phenomenom as well)

English | XviD | 720×400 | MP3 | 192kbps | 700MB

Info:

Planet Earth is the most spectacular look at our planet that has ever been broadcast. It has made millions of viewers aware of the breathtaking beauty and variety of life on our planet, and just as importantly how fragile that life can be.

The premise of Planet Earth The Future is to identify environmental and conservation issues that surround some of the sequences in Planet Earth, and put these issues to leading commentators, including NGO’s, politicians and religious leaders James Leape (WWF International), Jeffrey McNeely (World Conservation Union), and the Archbishop of Canterbury to name but a few of the 35 contributors.

We are living in destructive times, and our responsibility for the planets stewardship is something none of us can afford to ignore. Comprised of transcripts from the series interviews, thoughtfully edited and abbreviated, this compelling and insightful book serves as a timely reminder of what needs to be done and what can be done to keep Planet Earth alive.

BBC – Visions of the Future [Complete Set] (2007)

BBC – Visions of the Future (2007)
XviD | 672×384 | Bitrate: 1639Kbps | Duration: 59 min.

In this new three-part series, leading theoretical physicist and futurist Dr Michio Kaku explores the cutting edge science of today, tomorrow, and beyond. He argues that humankind is at a turning point in history. In this century, we are going to make the historic transition from the ‘Age of Discovery’ to the ‘Age of Mastery’, a period in which we will move from being passive observers of nature to its active choreographers. This will give us not only unparalleled possibilities but also great responsibilities.

Part 1: The Intelligence Revolution

In the opening instalment, Kaku explains how artificial intelligence will revolutionise homes, workplaces and lifestyles, and how virtual worlds will become so realistic that they will rival the physical world. Robots with human-level intelligence may finally become a reality, and in the ultimate stage of mastery, we’ll even be able to merge our minds with machine intelligence.

For the first time on television, see how a severely depressed patient can be turned into a happy person at the push of a button – all thanks to the cross-pollination of neuroscience and artificial intelligence.

http://rapidshare.com/files/76438375/Visions1.part7.rar

Part 2: The Biotech Revolution

Genetics and biotechnology promise a future of unprecedented health and longevity: DNA screening could prevent many diseases, gene therapy could cure them and, thanks to lab-grown organs, the human body could be repaired as easily as a car, with spare parts readily available. Ultimately, the ageing process itself could be slowed down or even halted.

But what impact will this have on who we are and how we will live? And, with our mastery of the genome, will the human race end up in a world divided by genetic apartheid?

Part 3: The Quantum Revolution

The quantum revolution could turn many ideas of science fiction into science fact – from metamaterials with mind-boggling properties like invisibility through limitless quantum energy and room temperature superconductors to Arthur C Clarke’s space elevator. Some scientists even forecast that in the latter half of the century everybody will have a personal fabricator that re-arranges molecules to produce everything from almost anything. Yet how will we ultimately use our mastery of matter? Like Samson, will we use our strength to bring down the temple? Or, like Solomon, will we have the wisdom to match our technology?

New features in 2.0

===================

Recoil - Recoil is now applied to every weapon that fires in DoD. When in duck\prone, your recoil will be reduced.

MG Classes - The mg42\30 cal is the only weapon you get when you choose this class. When firing the weapon without its tripod\bipod down your accuracy and stamina is aweful. To place your bipod\tripod down, you must go prone. Once prone, hit your SECONDARY fire button (2nd mouse button), the tripod will go down. Your accuracy will be greatly improved. Your views are limited while your tripod\bipod is down. You cannot get up, or move until your bipod\tripod is brought back up (Secondary fire button again). You only get 2 belts of ammo, so shoot wisely, light inf. carries 1 belt of ammo for mger, they can run them to you. You can only reload when prone and tripod\bipod is down. Also new entity for mappers, a sand bag placement, so you can place your bipod\tripod down while standing up, as long as you are behind the sand bag entity.

Prone System - The views do not go all the way down, I am aware of this, valve will help me fix this before release. Once down, your view will sway back and forth while moving, once stopped your view slowly resets to center screen. You can not fire while moving in prone.

Movement System - New movement system. 2 new movement types, jog (default) and sprint (shift key). Hold down the shift key to get a quick burst of running speed, will drain stamina.

New Scoped Kar - replaces the gewehr sniper rifle. Same firing as spring, single shot reload.

New Spade - All germans, cept sniper, get the spade (shovel), replaces the youth knife.

New Sound System - Just the start of our new sound system, everything is heard by others, from breathing, to jiggling of pack and equipment while moving and jumping.

New Effects System - Not finished, so far we have the new shrapnel system in. When explosions go off tiny bits of shrapnel shoot out with smoke effects which follow it as it bounces around.

New Sniper System - When zooming in, your screen fades into the scope to represent your eyes settling into the scope, when you move you come out of the scope. Scope stays zoomed in for a second after shot, to let you see how your shot was.

New Animation System - New death animations, new jog\walk\crouch animations, new getup\get down prone animations, new mg42 bipod out\in animations, new hand signal animations (ties into the voice commands, and also can be done by themselves for silent times). When zooming in with Sniper rifles, your player actually does a zoomin animation.

New Hud - All colored, better functionality for map goals, objective timers, objective status, and reinforcement timer.

New file\directory system - All files in lower case lettering, deleted lots of unused files, redid the paths for directories to clean up our structure. NO UPPERCASE FILES !!!

New Weapon models

New Sounds

New Objectives System - Mugsy will write up a file that helps better explain how to use this system for mappers.

New Fog System - 2 versions, the Valve version of OpenGL, and then the plain OpenGL version. cl_fog (1 = opengl, 2 = valve). You can set the color of it with (cl_fog_red, cl_fog_green, cl_fog_blue) give those a RGB value, default is 192 for each (grey). cl_fog_start is used to show where the fog starts in relation to your view point, cl_fog_end is the ending point for it in relation to your view as well.

Warlords Battlecry 2 Demo - RS

WARLORDS BATTLECRY II Demo v1.00
Ubi Soft

(Wikipedia) Warlords Battlecry II is a real-time strategy and role-playing game, developed by SSG as the sequel to Warlords Battlecry. It was released on 12 March 2002.[2] The game requires the player to build buildings and create units in order to defeat the enemy, whilst sending their hero on optional quests.[1]

The game is set within the world of Etheria. In the campaign the player must take control of one of the twelve races and capture all sixty-seven regions of the land in a non-linear manner. The player does this whilst assuming the role of a "Hero" which he or she has created. There are twelve different playable races, each with their own type of Hero, buildings and resource dependencies.[1]

The game was well-received by critics and users alike,[2] with an average score of 82/100 on Metacritic.[3] Warlords Battlecry III, the sequel to the game, was released in 2004.

IT Consolidation through virtualization has emerged as an effective strategy for addressing the very real need for computing scalability while increasing the work that can be done in a given power, thermal, and physical footprint. Consolidation can improve resource utilization, reduce administrative complexity, and drive down IT costs.

But are you getting the most out of your virtualization dollar? Are your virtualized systems yielding the scalability you set out to achieve? Do the tools you're using allow the most creative solutions to your consolidation issues?

Attend this eSeminar and you'll learn:

  • How utilizing VMware virtual infrastructure software with the Solaris 10 OS for consolidation projects can increase system utilization by up to ten times.
  • How the Sun Fire X4600 M2 server makes the most of AMD's Direct Connect Architecture, yielding top results on VMware's VMmark benchmark.
  • Why Sun provides a choice of the Solaris OS, Linux, Microsoft Windows, and VMware virtualization software.
  • The benefits of Solaris OS advanced features such as Solaris Containers and DTrace that can help consolidate and tune enterprise deployments.
  • How Rapid Virtualization Indexing included in AMD-V technology in Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors dramatically increases the performance of virtualized applications while providing faster switching between virtual machines.
  • How AMD's Rapid Virtualization Indexing feature is designed to reduce the overhead penalty associated with virtualization technologies by moving the process of managing virtual memory from software to hardware.
Created by engineers for engineers, this presentation is part of the Sun BluePrints Program eSeminar series. Don't miss out on this interactive opportunity to 'meet the experts' at Sun and AMD, and bring your most technical questions about our joint virtualization technologies - we will answer them during the live Q&A following our presentation.
